Warrior, King, and Peacemaker

Reading: Psalm 46

This morning as I write, there are some extremely controversial nuclear negotiations going on in Geneva, Switzerland. The US is backing what Israel terms a “bad deal” with Iran to allow it to continue building nuclear weapons aimed at annihilating Israel. Many attempt to ignore Iran’s true desires in the name of democracy, saying all Iran truly wants is to have the economic sanctions removed in order to better serve it’s people. Unfortunately, for those in the know, it is simply a devious lie.

It is somewhat similar to Gollum’s attempt to frame “Sam” Gamgee as a treacherous thief, in the last leg of the journey into Mordor in The Lord of the Rings. While Sam attempts to choke the lying Gollum to death, Frodo responds by defending Gollum and sending his loyal friend Sam packing. It turned out to be a terrible mistake, as Frodo was spared death at Gollum’s hand only by Sam’s bullish loyalty and some dumb-luck.

According to Israeli PM Netanyahu, the noose was around Iran’s throat, and the Regime was about to give-up its nuclear ambitions for good. This would likely have led to the demise of the terrible, oppressive, and deceiving radical Islamic Regime. Yet it was just at this critical point that America spotted how seemingly fragile and peaceful Iran was, and decided it was kinder to loosen the rope. I am no prophet, nor am I “in the know”, but this might become one of the worse mistakes in Americas’ international dealings to date.

Joel Rosenberg reported yesterday on his website: “Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said his country would not step back from its nuclear rights and his negotiating team had set limits for talks over Iran’s disputed nuclear program to resume in Geneva later on Wednesday” (originally reported by the Jerusalem Post). Then, on Iranian National TV he crudely and openly attacks both Israel and it’s new-found ally, not America but France. Khamenei, who actually has more power than President Hassan Rouhani, said this:

Zionist officials cannot be called humans, they are like animals, some of them, the Israeli regime is doomed to failure and annihilation.

The ‘Zionist regime’ says things that ‘only bring humiliation on themselves,’ he said adding that it is a regime that ‘emerged through force and no phenomenon that has emerged through force has continued to exist, and this regime will not continue to exist either.

Those are fighting words by Khamenei, and now that he stands on the brink of achieving all that his country has ever wanted – freedom to build nuclear weapons (largely unimpeded) – he is gloating, pointing the finger and predicting the total demise of God’s People. He is wrong, for God’s loyalty towards His wayward People is more than bullish, and He intends on defending it. Yet, much evil will come upon Israel, even in the next few years, and if Antichrist appears, his power will loom terrible and dark over the entire land.  Even as armies will surround it, tanks will roll to it’s doors, jets will fly over it’s ancient walls, the King of Kings will appear with hope, as rain clouds over a dry and thirsty land, as sunrise into the blackness. The Warrior Messiah will touch-down on the Mount of Olives and will annihilate all of His enemies with one fell blow, entering the City of David as its King, as its Eternal Peacemaker. Here is the City of God, come from Heaven down to earth; soon thereafter will rise the eternal, universal, and peaceful Kingdom of God.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah. (Psalm 46:1-3, ESV)

The Great Tribulation will come before Armageddon, seven years of terrible oppression, bloodshed, and open rebellion towards God and His followers. Even in such turmoil, God has been and ever will be our refuge, helper, and defender. How many times has man attempted and failed to dethrone God, annihilate the Jews, or martyr the saints?

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns. The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah. (Psalm 46:4-7)

In the midst of all the turmoil, anxiety, and fear, God is in His City, and perfect peace resides there. The Throne of God is untouched by man’s schemes and evil doings, for His hand protects and guides His own, awaiting the end of the times of men until the Son should reign. I imagine myself sitting, resting on the banks of this river, which brings both peace and joy. We are invited to imagine, awaiting the Day when such will be the reality here on this globe. That day is not now, but He who will give us all this and eternally more, is still Ruler of the universe, and nothing will ever happen which He has not allowed in His perfect wisdom.

Come, behold the works of the LORD, how he has brought desolations on the earth. He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire. “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah. (Psalm 46:8-11)

“The day of the LORD is great and very awesome; who can endure it? ” (Joel 12:11), says the Prophet. In the midst of wars and rumors of wars, of growing evil, and desperation among mankind, God has promised a Day in which He will make all things right. That day is called “the day of the LORD” in the Old Testament, and Armageddon in the New Testament.

God, through Jesus Christ, will rule the world, putting an end to all wars, ridding the world of our weapons of destruction, thus establishing peace and safety for all. The Millennium will see the reign of man’s long-awaited Ruler, and the only true One worthy of leading us and guiding our future. The Millennium will lead to the Great White Throne judgement, where sin will be eternally dealt with, heaven and earth will be recreated, and the eternal reign of the world’s only Messiah will continue on.

Do we have fear of terrible things on the horizon – of horrendous wars, economic failure, or immoral lifestyles being forced upon others?

Be stillknow, realize and comprehend the truth – that He is God. He will accomplish all that He has promised, He will be victorious, and we are on His side!
